3 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Professional Resume Writer - Hallie Crawford

3 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Professional Resume Writer We all know how important a resume can be. Research shows that most hiring managers only spend 10-20 seconds on applicant’s resumes, so you want to make a great first impression. However, since free resume templates have become more and more accessible, do you really need to hire a professional resume writer? Here are three important reasons why you should: Personal interest. A good professional resume writer doesn’t simply rewrite your original resume. Our professional resume writers will take a personal interest in you and your work accomplishments. Then they use that information to write a better quality resume that will get immediate attention and better results. Self-awareness. A free resume template won’t help you discover your accomplishments at work. An experienced resume writer will take the time to unearth exactly what you have contributed to the workplace and help you to be more aware of things that would catch the eye of a hiring manager. Many times our clients walk away, not just with a complete resume, but with a feeling of greater self-worth. Our resume writers help clients to discover that they have accomplished more in the workplace than they thought. This confidence also prepares them for upcoming job interviews. High quality. When you hire a professional resume writer, they don’t just use a template to create your new resume. They take time to create a quality document that is true to you, your industry, and that stands out from the other free-template resumes that hiring managers will sort through. Our resume writers do not use standard questionnaires or any templates. Instead, they interview each client individually and tailor resume solutions to their specific needs. How to Train Your Memory for Better Problem-Solving Abilities

How to Train Your Memory for Better Problem-Solving Abilities When you’re presented with a particularly thorny challenge at work, “think outside the box” is a common piece of advice. But figuring out how to do that can be nearly as tough as figuring out the answer you’re seeking in the first place. Now, science offers a solution to help anyone tap into their creative thought process to solve problems. “Having individuals think back on a recent experience in a very detailed way, reflecting on the people, setting, and actions of the experience,” is the key to unlocking creative problem solving, says Kevin Madore, a psychology Ph.D candidate at Harvard University and the lead author of a new study in Psychological Science that looks at how “episodic memory,” as the researchers call it, contributes to a person’s creative problem-solving ability. In a series of experiments, subjects watched a short video and then were interviewed with the purpose of getting them to remember as many small details about the video as they possibly could. Those subjects did a better job than a control group in the second part of the experiment, in which they were told to think of unusual uses for common household objects like newspaper or a bedsheet. Madore calls the process of mentally re-creating a scene or an activity “event building.” It’s a process that’s similar to coming up with a creative solution to a problem, because in both cases, you need to fill in lots of details, and get them in the proper place and the right order. “Priming individuals to be in [that] specific frame of mind… seems to assist them on creativity tasks that also may rely on event building,” Madore says. Although the study’s experiments took place in a lab setting, Madore says it’s possible to train yourself to practice episodic memory in order to unlock your hidden creativity. Treat your brain like a recording device, taking down even the most minute details. Be as specific as you can in your recollection, Madore advises. “What color hair did the people have? What was the layout of the main setting? What order were the actions performed in? How were the actions performed? Thinking on a microscopic level and using focused mental imagery… can be helpful,” he says. Doing this puts you in a detail-oriented frame of mind, which means that small elements that might have escaped your noticeâ€"and could be the key to a creative solution to your particular problemâ€"capture your attention and become accessible to you. It doesn’t matter what kind of memory you think about, as long as it’s one you can recall in vivid detail. “It seems that any sort of recollection or memory that people can think about in great detail should be helpful,” Madore says. 3 Powerful Universal Laws For Getting What You Want - Work It Daily

3 Powerful Universal Laws For Getting What You Want - Work It Daily Like any typical Canadian, I love ice hockey. I started skating when I was four, and since then, hockey has been the one thing I could always count on to feel like I excelled at. Related: How To Get The Type Of Job Everyone Wants Although I never fulfilled my dream of boyhood dream of playing in the NHL, I did win a few MVP and top scorer awards on my teams, so looking back, I consider my “career” a success. I also have hockey - along with my Dad - to thank for teaching me the first of these three powerful and universal laws of success. This first law has served me all my life, and without it - I wouldn’t be writing to you today. I discovered the other two laws later in life, and though there are many more laws out there… these three are what I consider to be most powerful in terms of helping you get what you want in life. So, without further ado, here are the three universal laws - starting with... Law #1: You Get Out What You Put In On the ice, I got direct and instant feedback based on my efforts. If I skated hard, played smart, and tried my best, then I’d score goals and help win games. If I was lazy and unfocused, then I would make mistakes and hurt the team. There was no confusion about the cause of the problem and no one else to blame. I was directly accountable for my results, and I was the only one who could change them. In life and our careers, we don’t always get feedback as quickly as in a game, and that’s why it’s even more important to understand and accept this law in the ‘real world’... … Because realizing you despise what your life has become after 5, 10, or 20 years in the workforce is a pretty ugly wake up call… And if the reason for those results is that you didn’t put in your best effort, then you have no one to blame but yourself. So, ask yourself at the end of each and every day, is what I’m putting in going to give me the results I want? You get out what you put in, so it’s all up to you. Law #2: You Get What You Believe You’re Worth Feel like you’re not paid enough? Or maybe that you deserve a better job? Well, here’s a law I learned after getting my heart broken as a young man… and it goes like this: If you truly believe with every fiber of your being that you deserve true love, then you’ll get it. If you feel you’re not good enough, then you won’t. If you believe you deserve to earn $50k - or $100k a year, then that’s what you’ll make, and if you believe you’re worthy of a great job that treats you well, then that’s what you’ll get. See, if you truly believed that you should have a result you desire right now, then that would already be your reality. If that’s not your reality, then one reason could be that you don’t believe you deserve it quite yet. Maybe you just need to work at it more, or maybe - based on your upbringing - you don’t even think it’s possible for someone like you. Either way, spending time with and learning from people who are getting the results you want is a great way to close the gap quicker and get what you want. Law #3: The Law Of Specificity Now here’s a law you can have a bit more fun with… because it’s as simple as this: The more specific you can get about exactly what you want in life, the faster you’ll get it. So, have some fun dreaming and scheming about what you want in your career and your life - and get specific! What color car do you want? What type of characteristics does your dream partner have? What kind of income do you want, and what type of job suits you best? So, remember the three universal laws if you’re looking to get what you want: you get out what you put in, you get what you believe you’re worth, and you’ve got to get specific about what you want. And if you want some more tangible job seeking tips for finding and getting your next dream job, then check out a little video I put together for you here. In it, I tell you where to find the best jobs with the most inspiring employers, and how to get their attention and get the job. Happy job seeking! Dont Fret, Its Only Reality

Dont Fret, Its Only Reality Dont Fret, Its Only RealityThis is a guest post by Sammantha Johnsonfor Student Stories. The day of commencement is embarking on a new beginning. After the excitement, its time to land that dream job, or let alone a job. Im currently riding the luxury retail wave at Neiman Marcus. Chanelthis, Celinethat, and oh, lets elend forget theManolos. The transition from a free-spirited college student in a campus with a river carved in the middle to a working woman stuck in a traffic-mania highway with a multi-million-dollar department could send anyone into a whirlpool of reality. In a span of six months, company principles and that 8 a.m. alarm feels like a blissful Saturday morning However, thats if youre able to manage your work and personal life properly, key word properly.Last August, I started at Neimans leid knowing the magnitude of the newly created position. The roles include Chanel and Celine merchandising, jaw-dropping stock inventory, and organizing (lot s and lots of organizing). After a days work, the brain desires a cheap happy hour, hot yoga, or Netflixing. The first month, I was too tired to have a social life. My daily routine Work. Sleep. Work. By the fourth month though, I had a handle on my position, met the power players, and could blaze through stock inventory with ease.I felt like the queen of the world, scheduling all appointments in my iPhone.Monday Yoga, Tuesday Cleaning day, Wednesday Yoga, Thursday Weights, Friday Run then dinner with friends. My personal life was falling into place, which included sleep, friends, and fitness. Its important to have a planner, Siri, or caveman style your hand.Ideas and tasks race through our minds at astronomical speeds. Dont lose your anfhrer request during the hectic morning. Later, theyll promptly ask, Did we finish creating next weeks schedule?? And then youre stuck nodding like Crap, I forgot, but answering, Yes, alfruchtwein finished Lies So dont let the frivolous things amount to avoidable problems. From my own personal experience, I advise to rely on your schedule but dont forget to leave some quality time to recharge. Give your mind, soul and body time to rest. My restorative replenishment is yoga and spending time with close friends. Once youre on a daily schedule, stick to your appointments and only deviate when its necessary. Dont deviate too often youll be back at square one trying to rebuild your fortress. Be good to yourself.A yogi once said, The highest point of yesterday should be the lowest point of today.Okay, now youre on the path to organizing your lifes schedule, so the next step is prioritizing your career development. Networking is the most valued skill to possess right now. Especially working at Neiman Marcus, so many professionals could arrange a game-changing conversation. Currently, Im fostering relationships on LinkedIn, but dont forget your local university chapters. Just because youve graduated doesnt mean youre venturing this path alone. Texas State hosts monthly mixers for graduates to mingle with Bobcat professionals in any given city. Its awesome because youre chanting your schools Alma mater while planning how to propel your future. Frankly, thats the bestMore ways I prioritize is accepting additional tasks outside my job description and not being closed-minded. Ive realized that I want to specialize in fashion and communication rather than solely integrate myself into the retail industry. I plan to work closely with my boss and gain as much information as possible. Continually, Im molding myself into a valued candidate. Its important for employers to evaluate how your actions are implemented. My boss knows I love to be challenged, so Im constantly presented with stimulating tasks. Itll be recognized in your annual review. That review leads to a solid recommendation letter or even better, a phone callThe road after college is definitely rough and hilly, and not every adventure will spawn a reward. If you stay humbled, organized, and focused, you will one day achieve your goals. Never be discouraged. Yes, your friend may look fabulous flaunting her dream job on Instagram, while youre deciphering if you can afford your monthly ten-dollar Netflix account Thats whenlife gets real. But just know your time will come. Do not simply be patient, be pro-active. There is a huge difference between the two. Now, run with this knowledge and blow out the competition.
